An album of songs written in a stone house on the river Shannon, replete with wistful odes, murder ballads and poetry. ‘House That The Trees Reclaimed’ is the product of Baker’s past 5 years in France and Ireland, culminating in a year living in East Clare, on the banks of the river Shannon, studying for the inaugural year of the MA in Songwriting in the Irish World Academy, Limerick. The course was run by musician and presenter Carl Corcoran and its visiting tutors included Duke Special, Lisa Hannigan, Mick Flannery and John Spillane. The album consists of songs drawn from living in a small house on the Shannon,
encompassing everything from dark murder ballads to reminisces of gigs in seedy Dublin bars, to songs about the Mother and Baby homes. Baker was heavily influenced by the songwriting titans of France like Jacques Brel, for his lyrical wit and dexterity, and the soundscape of the Irish World Academy, with rooms full of fiddlers/harpists/percussive
dancers and singers, creating their strange symphony that echoes the college halls. The artwork is by Berlin based Irish artist and longtime collaborator Sheena Malone.
