Garlands of Roses

from Fading Fast by Garret Baker & The Random Nouns

/

lyrics

A house once so open
Is now lying closed
Bars on the windows
Time in repose

Garlands of roses
Lie on the floor
The garden that grew them
Will grow them no more

He'd tended their garden
For she liked to wear
Back in her young days
A rose in her hair
And they'd go walking
With wine to the hills
And whisper sweet nothings
And drink deep their fill

When she died many years back
He'd stayed on alone
The world it kept turning
But the house was no home
As he got older
The years they all blurred
He watched now the closed door
For her safe return
And when he died
He was watching that door
The garlands of roses all fell to the floor
